Although Sony’s splendid Xperia Z smartphone has been officially introduced to the world back in January, the 5-incher has only started selling in the US a couple of days ago. And even now you can only get the thing outright, in a SIM-free flavor, but for a pretty extravagant price point – $629.99.
Still, you’ll be getting a fairly lucrative deal from Sony’s American online store, as the Xperia Z sports a Full HD panel, a quad-core 1.5 GHz processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a 13 MP camera, plus water and dust protection.
Unfortunately, the version on sale on American shores at this time comes with HSPA+ speeds only. A 4G LTE-enabled flavor is rumored to be released soon as well, but chances are it’s going to be sold exclusively by T-Mobile with the Uncarrier’s new Value plans.
Meanwhile, the non-waterproof, but more compact Sony flagship, the ZL, has had its price dropped via Sony’s online store, now going for the same $629.99 as its sibling. That’s also a pretty decent deal, though you can make an even better one if you choose to do business with Newegg, where the ZL is $609.99.
