You don’t have to be a brainiac to tell demand is growing for smartphones with added protection like water or dust proofing. Still, the truly rugged handhelds, those with a reinforced exterior and water, dust, but also shock or vibration protection, remain for the most part niche devices that only a handful of people really want. Or need.
Well, if you’re part of that handful, it’s time to rejoice! The aging Casio G’ zOne Commando is about to get updated, with a Commando 4G LTE pictured by notorious leaker @evleaks earlier today.
The Twitter user isn’t ready to reveal any more details about the LTE-enabled “rock”, so all we have right now is the above press photo (which looks legit), and the promise that a Verizon launch is slated for 2013. Yeah, thanks a lot, @evleaks!
Oddly, the second-gen Commando looks pretty much identical to its ancestor from the outside, despite more than two years having passed since the release of that first phone. Several major hardware and software updates are to be expected though, so don’t be surprised if the Commando 4G LTE were to come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus CPU, 1 GB of RAM and NFC in tow.
