casio-gzone-commando-lteI don’t know if there was really anyone who expected Verizon’s Casio G’zOne Commando follow-up with bated breath, but if there was, the rugged smartphone has just now become official, following a couple of earlier leaks.

What’s odd is Big Red insists on keeping most of the thing’s specs under wraps. Oh, well, it’s not like we don’t know them already, courtesy of our good pal and trusted insider @evleaks.

As a quick refresher, the Casio G’zOne Commando 4G LTE (awful, awful name, by the way) is tipped to come with protection to dust, water, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation and thermal shock, plus a fairly modest 4-inch WVGA screen, a yet to be detailed dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, 1 gig of RAM, 16 GB of storage, 8 MP/1.3 MP cameras, 1,800 mAh battery and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The only features confirmed at this point are the cameras and rugged capabilities of the Commando, but fortunately the “rock” is to go on sale the day after tomorrow (i.e. June 27), so everything should be made official by then.

The pricing has been announced, though that’s one detail we’re not very excited about. Verizon will sell the LTE-enabled Commando for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and that’s a little steep for a gadget that’s essentially mid-range from every standpoint besides the ruggedness factor. Anyone else think this needs a price shave?
