Sony Xperia Z Ultra Announced, a Snapdragon 800-Powered “Phablet”

Sony Mobile today has officially announced the Xperia Z Ultra, its latest addition to the Xperia Z series which borders on being a smartphone and tablet. Joining the league of the so-called “phablet,” the Xperia Z Ultra sports a 6.4-inch display with 1080p resolution. Said handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor and aptly backed by a 2GB of RAM and 4G LTE connectivity, making the Xperia Z Ultra a powerhoused mobile device.

In the looks department, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is a sure candidate to being one of the slimmest smartphone to date, if only its 6.5mm thickness is thinner than the Huawei Ascend P6. When it comes to weight, the handset is lightweight enough at 212 grams. Overall, fans of slim smartphones will surely be pleased by the form factor of the Xperia Z Ultra.

Other specs worth knowing about the Sony Xperia Z Ultra includes a 16GB built-in storage, microSD slot for additional storage up to 64GB. The device boasts of a 3,000 mAh battery pack which we are guessing will be enough to last you through the day if you’re a smartphone power user.

When it comes to features, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is also pre-installed with the usual Sony mini-apps. It also packs in an 8MP rear-facing camera with Exmor RS sensor with HDR video and photo capturing features, 2MP front-facing camera, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS.

If you’re an active individual who brings along your smartphone with everything you do, you might be interested to know that the Xperia Z Ultra is a waterproof device. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is scheduled for a July release in the Asian markets. This will be followed by a European market release sometime in September.
