Earlier reports suggested that the Windows Phone 8 GDR2 update would roll out to devices by the end of this month. Well, it looks like said reports were correct, as unlocked versions Samsung Ativ S running Windows Phone 8 are said to be receiving the GDR2 update.

The reports emerge from a German site WPArea.de, that has been receiving numerous screenshots of the Samsung Ativ S running v8.0.10327.77, dubbed as GDR2 update. The update brings DataSense that allows you to track data usage, FM Radio, Xbox Music improvements, Improved HTML 5 compatibility for Internet Explorer,  Skype improvements and a number of bug fixes. According to WPArea, FM Radio and DataSense are not available in the GDR2 update for some strange reason.

However, I don’t think this is something Windows Phone 8 users should get excited about; it is the GDR3 update that is worth looking forward. It will bring support for 5-6 inch screens, 1080p display and support for quad-core chipsets.

Did you receive the update on your unlocked Samsung Ativ S? If you didn’t, just don’t worry as the update is rolled out gradually, which means that you will receive it in a few days. If you updated, share with us if you can notice any major changes.
