The last time we heard about the Socialmatic camera, the company had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Polaroid’s parent company to create and distribute the Socialmatic camera on a wide scale. We now know both companies are moving forward with its plans. The Socialmatic will be released in early 2014 for $299. Pre-orders aren’t open at the time of this writing, but Socialmatic says it will be soon. The camera will be distributed worldwide.
The Socialmatic is a cross between the old school Polaroid instant cameras and a modern point-and-shoot. The cameras come with a built-in Zink printer much like the Polaroid Z2300. The camera also takes advantage of the Instagram craze by including built-in filters.
Other modern features include Wi-Fi connectivity, a 4.3-inch touchscreen and an unknown version of Android.
Here are the camera’s specifications.
- 14-megapixel front camera
- 2-megapixel rear camera
- LED flash
- 4.3-inch touchscreen
- Android OS
- Stereo Speakers
- 4GB internal storage with expandable SD card slot
$300 may seem pricey for what’s being offered. However, this camera isn’t necessarily for the person who is looking for a more serious camera. Yes, you can find some really good mirrorless cameras for $300, but the main draw here is social connectivity and printing pictures instantly.
