Does the tech world really need yet one more overpriced Windows 8 tablet? We’re about to find out, as Samsung’s ATIV Tab 3 will apparently start shipping August 25. That’s via Dealville, a fairly obscure third-party Amazon seller, so maybe higher-profile retailers will get it even sooner.
As far as this Dealville goes, it’s currently taking pre-orders for the 10-inch slate for the neat price of $559.99. Hard to believe anyone will be able to undercut that, although it’s pretty clear the bang for the buck factor here is in need of some improvement.
Remember, the ATIV Tab 3 is essentially a smaller version of last year’s ATIV Tab 5, with a couple of aesthetic tweaks, half the big guy’s on-board storage and a more mediocre rear-facing camera.
If you want me to go into specifics, here’s ATIV Tab 3’s list of features in its entirety (well, you know, the parts that actually matter):
- 10.1-inch Super PLS LCD screen with 1,366 x 768 pixels resolution
- Dual-core 1.8 GHz Intel Atom Z2760 processor
- 2 GB of RAM
- 64 GB of storage space
- MicroSD support
- Windows 8
- NFC, 4G LTE, HDMI, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity
- 5 MP rear-facing camera
- 10.13 x 6.51 x 0.32 inches dimensions
- 550 grams weight
So what do you say? Would you fancy one of these babies for $550? How about for 500 bucks? What, you wouldn’t touch it even if it was $450? Then it sounds like this is an uphill battle for Microsoft and Samsung.
