Facebook is reportedly working on a ‘VIP’ application that will be offered to celebrities only, says a report from insider sources to AllThingsD.
The application will make it easier for the celebrities to manage the chatter that is going on Facebook, deal with fans and become a part of the popular social network.
Facebook is currently testing the application with a number of celebrities, helping them monitor all of their conversations with fans from a mobile device. From within the application, the stars can respond to their fans and can become a part of ongoing conversations. However, there are no details available about who can be classified as a celebrity until now.
According to a Facebook spokesman who talked to AllThingsD,
We are currently testing some mobile features designed to help public figures interact with their fans. We are testing these features with a small group of partners and will share more details should we roll it out more widely.
The user engagement on Facebook still lacks a lot of features. Twitter has a comparative advantage in this regard, as it allows celebrities to easily monitor their messages and replies in a single column, and get in touch with their fans.
Currently, there is no news about how the application will be distributed to the chosen few or about who qualifies as a celebrity to use the application.
Also, there are no details about how the application will work or when it will be released. But we hope to hear from officials very soon if this rumor appears to be true.
