Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear smartwatch has been the talk of the town since the Korean company announced their September 4 event, during the first day of IFA in Berlin. At that time, they hadn’t mentioned anything about the two new Galaxy devices — but now, it has thankfully been confirmed. And they’ll be demonstrating both on September 4 in Berlin.
In an interview with Korea Times, executive VP of Samsung’s mobile business, Lee Young-hee, mentioned that Galaxy Gear will use a non-flexible display. This shatters all the rumors that mentioned that Samsung smartwatchwill feature a flexible display.
“We will be introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear at our own event in Berlin on Sept. 4,” Lee said. She further stated, “The Gear won’t have a flexible display. The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways. It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry.”
Lee also confirmed that Samsung will unveil their Galaxy Note 3 as well — alongside Galaxy Gear at the Samsung “Unpacked” event. However, she declined to comment on any details of the Galaxy Note 3.
During the interview, Lee also shared some information concerning her company’s other plans. As you may have already heard, Canadian manufacturer Blackberry is exploring “strategic alternatives,” which may include a sale of the company, in part or in full. It was rumored that Samsung could be interested in purchasing Blackberry but now it seems as if that’s not the case.
“Samsung Electronics is not considering that opportunity,” she said without elaborating further.
It might be a time for the rumor makers to take some rest. We now know, confirmed by a Samsung executive, that we will be seeing two new devices in early-September. So in the blogosphere, there’s hardly any need to speculate any longer about Samsung’s short term plans. Are you excited too or do you need more evidence?
