So you live in the U.K., crave for a Windows Phone for God knows what reasons, want something with a generously-sized display but can’t afford the Nokia Lumia 920, 925 or 1020? Not to worry, as the Lumia 625 has just gone on sale, right on schedule if I may add, while the Samsung ATIV S has had its price savagely slashed… again.
Let’s start with the beginning and say Expansys is probably the retailer that promises to cut you the best Nokia Lumia 625 deal. With only 14 units in stock however, you might want to hurry and cough up the £239.99 ($370) asked for the off-contract 4.7-incher.
Sporting a fairly modest 800 x 480 pix res panel, the 625 is Nokia’s biggest handheld to date (until the “Bandit” lands, at least), though that’s basically the only ace up its sleeve. Well, that and the pre-loaded Windows Phone 8 Amber, if you’re into that sort of thing.
The rest of the specs can only be described as modest… or worse, including a dual-core 1.2 GHz CPU, 512 MB RAM, 5 MP rear cam and 2,000 mAh battery.
Which brings us to the ATIV S, a far older device running on Windows Phone 8, but one that holds its own very well and is just £199.99 via Expansys, after a £50 price cut, which in turn followed a couple of other massive discounts (the original price tag was £500.
In a nutshell, Sammy’s 4.8-incher is an absolute steal for the new price tag, being capable of going head to head against plenty of upper mid-rangers powered by Android. The screen is 720p, the processor dual-core and clocked at 1.5 GHz, you get 16 GB of on-board storage, 1 gig of RAM, plus an 8 MP cam and 2,300 mAh battery. No contest between the two, eh?
