Microsoft’s Kinect camera is no doubt revolutionary. I find it impressive that it’s used in a number of different projects and mods already. It’s not just for the Xbox.
The software giant isn’t the only one interested in the camera technology. For one, Intel is looking to enter the 3D camera technology perhaps to rival Kinect. Whatever Kinect can do, Intel’s 3D tool could probably do and even more.
Intel’s camera is believed to bring facial expression identification (facial tracking technology) to a more advanced level. And then there’s 3D scanning-printing that allows the camera to scan an object by assessing size, depth, color, and distance.
Of course, there’s interactive gaming that we’re expecting to be better than what the Nintendo Wii and Xbox Kinect can do.
Intel is said to be rolling out the new 3D camera technology 2nd quarter of next year. The Redmond-company is also looking to integrate it into ultra books and laptops.
Should Microsoft worry for the Kinect? We’ll see about that.
