Finally, after countless rumours and speculations, Samsung has officially announced its latest “innovative” product, the Samsung Galaxy Gear. Samsung aptly describes the Galaxy Gear as a wearable device that integrates the Samsung Galaxy experience into everyday life. And yes, it’s in the form of a watch, a smartwatch to be exact.
Samsung really wanted to make the Galaxy Gear special and not just your run-of-the-mill sportwatch with some smart features. But of course, let’s not all forget that this is a companion device to Samsung’s other major products, namely – smartphones. As such, the Samsung Galaxy Gear’s primary function is to make you stay connected with your other Samsung Galaxy devices.
The Galaxy Gear notifies you of incoming messages, be it texts, emails or alerts. But it doesn’t just stop from sending those notifications, it even gives you a preview of those messages so that you can decide right there whether you’re going to accept or ignore the messages. And to let you instantly see the message, the Galaxy Gear features Smart Relay.
Other notable features of the Samsung Galaxy Gear includes the Memographer which makes use of the Galaxy Gear’s 1.9MP camera to record both photos and videos in creating quick, visual records of important information or events as you go about your daily life and lets you share them on social networking sites. There’s also Voice Memo for capturing important thoughts or conversations. After capturing this, the Galaxy Gear interface with your Samsung devices to let you store them as text messages. The Samsung Galaxy Gear also features Auto Lock, Find My Device, Pedometer and other useful apps.
Of course, let’s not all forget that the Samsung Galaxy Gear is still a stand-alone watch. So if those smart features don’t really tickle your fancy you can still decide to but the Samsung Galaxy Gear to serve as a device for telling time. Just don’t expect it to be as fashionable as other watches. Because, seriously it doesn’t look fashionable at all.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear is scheduled for a September 25 launch. Are you getting one?
