Verizon made an announcement on Thursday, introducing their ‘Total Mobile Protection’ plan. Using the tagline “Replace it, Support it, Secure it,” the optional $10-per month service is the company’s attempt to provide customers with a ‘soup-to-nuts’ resource, where they can access premium tech support, get anti-virus mobile software to prevent malware infections and it acts as an additional insurance measure, helping to cover the cost of a lost or stolen device.
Regarding the tech support feature, customers enrolled in ‘TMP’ will gain access to reaching Verizon Wireless’ Tech Coaches. This “premium” service results in shorter wait times for personalized tech support for your device, your apps, cloud services and device integration to TVs or printers, etc.
In terms of mobile virus protection — because let’s face it, pretty soon this will be an actual problem, just like on desktop computers — Verizon is providing customers with security options. The Verizon Mobile Security app will protect smart devices from viruses, malware and other mobile threats. It includes a device lock, device locator and content wipe features. Sound pretty good to me.
And lastly, if and when, in that untimely incident of misplacing or having your Verizon mobile device stolen, TMP includes insurance. This extends the manufacturer’s warranty, it offers next day device replacement and promises to charge you less than the full retail price. There’s no word on what percentage of the replacement they’ll cover.
Overall, this plan sounds pretty good. And I’m always completely skeptical of these things (I bought AppleCare in 2005 and realized that same year how ridiculously useless it was.) Be sure to check the video above for more information about Verizon’s Total Mobile Protection plan.
