We can all agree that duckface selfies are obnoxious, but did you know that they are dangerous as well? Certainly, society can stand to purge itself from the egotistical selfie trend, and now Hong Kong is taking that one step further.
Hong Kong is taking proactive steps to ensure that the selfie accident that happened at the Hong Kong Marathon doesn’t happen again at this year’s marathon in February. And I can’t help but think they’re doing the right thing.
In case you didn’t know, a runner decided to take a selfie during the marathon and literally caused a pileup of marathon runners.
Thus, the marathon is banning selfies and they are advising Hong Kong Marathon runners to leave the smartphones behind. They even discussed banning smartphones altogether, but that would pretty much be fighting a losing battle.
Chairman of the marathon organization committee, William Ko, said, ““What we’ve been trying to do is to get the message across to take care of yourself and to take care of other runners.”
Will this be enough to keep the narcissists under control? I sure hope so.
Please leave the selfie arm at home:
