Everybody knows cooling fans are the sort of necessary evils without which powerful computing machines couldn’t possibly exist. Sure, they’re often noisy, distracting and add bulk, but at the same time they keep our most trusted companions nice and cool during those long, exhausting yet oh so rewarding gaming sessions.
On the other hand, if you’re not that into gaming and want something a little more basic, but that can be easily carried around, MSI’s new W20 tablet will most definitely fit the bill rather perfectly. The 11.6-incher offers plenty of screen real estate for on-the-go video watching while at the same time keeping the weight in check courtesy of a fanless design.
The great thing about this 1.5-pound light slate is it’s truly an ideal travel compadre, packing a battery rated at no less than 9 hours of continuous use. Plus, it comes with a spacious, silent and zippy 128 GB SSD.
On the not so bright side, don’t be expecting a lot of punch from the AMD A4-1200 Temash CPU (certainly not as much as you’d get from an Intel Haswell unit), more so as it’s coupled with a modest 2 gigs of RAM. Moreover, the IPS panel sports a cringeworthy 1,366 x 768 pixels resolution.
But hey, you do get microSD support, pre-loaded Windows 8 (not 8.1, for some reason), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. And chances are MSI will keep the price bar low, though there’s no official word on that or availability just yet.
