Amazon has just pulled the wraps off of the Kindle Fire HDX, the company’s latest Kindle Fire tablet, which as they are being advertised, is lighter and faster than previous models. This also means that officially, there are now three generations of Kindle Fire tablets.
The new Kindle Fire HDX features the latest version of Fire OS, which is still a variation of the Android OS. Unique features on the platform include as X-Ray for Music, Second Screen, Prime Instant Video download and the new Mayday button. The New Mayday button lets you connect to an Amazon expert who can guide you remotely through any feature of the Kindle Fire HDX, 24/7, 365 days a year, for free. Amazon promises 15 seconds or less Mayday response time.
The new Kindle Fire HDX is available in either 7-inch or 8.9-inch screen display. The tablets are loaded with quad-core 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor which is more than three times the processing power of previous Kindle Fire models. The tablets also feature the latest graphics engine and 2x more memory. As mentioned, the new Kindle Fire HDX is also lighter the previous models. The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HDX weighs only 13.2 ounces.
The 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX retails for $229 and will be available for pre-order starting today with a promised shipping on October 18. There’s also a 4G version of this Kindle Fire which retails for $329 and is available also for pre-0rder today and will ship on November 14. The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire retails for $379 and will be available for pre-order today as well. Amazon will ship this tablet starting December 10.
