Nokia’s first few forays in the Windows smartphone market can probably be described best as cautious, since the Finns have refused to engage Android OEMs in the spec war. But prudency will likely be all forgotten when the Lumia 1520 (aka Bandit, aka Beastie) will become official.
The beast will up the ante in every meaningful way, from display size (6 inches) to resolution (Full HD) to processing power (quad-core Snapdragon 800), yet there’s a good chance it won’t exactly cater to the needs of all speed addicts out and about.
After all, not everyone digs phones the size of television sets. But that’s where the Lumia 929 is believed to enter the picture. Headed to Verizon and possibly only Verizon (bummer), the thing is rumored to replicate Lumia 1520’s specs to the letter, save for the gargantuan display, which will be replaced with a more pocket-friendly 5-incher.
That’s only speculation, mind you, for the time being, although we’re pretty sure the 929 is to be formally unveiled come October 22 and go for sale starting November 6. Equally as trustworthy is the word on pricing ($500 off-contract, which is actually pretty darn affordable), whereas the color options are said to be just white and black upon launch, with red joining the party a little later.
All fine and dandy, but please, Nokia, pretty please with sugar on top, don’t make it a Verizon exclusive.
