One of the most promising things about the Sony QX10 and QX100 is the API that’s open to developers. That means any developer that has a camera application can update it to provide support for Sony’s new lens cameras. Camera360 was the first app to pledge support with the intention of updating the app to version 4.8. Camera360 originally was going to be updated “around the same time” as the QX camera’s release, but now the update is slated for the middle of October.
Camera360 mentioned this release window on Twitter. By the time the update is released, the QX camera line would have already been available for a few weeks. Camera360 hasn’t mentioned any features it will add to its app specifically for the QX cameras beyond basic support. Whatever it does, it won’t be too hard to outshine Sony’s official PlayMemories Mobile application.
PlayMemories Mobile for both iOS and Android lack features that some would consider very basic. For example, it’s impossible to manually control the ISO in both the QX10 and QX100. PlayMemories Mobile is also quite unstable on iOS. At this point, improving the Wi-Fi connection between the camera and the phone would be a huge improvement.
