Instagram announced on Thursday that ads are finally coming to the image sharing network. Last year, the company was acquired by Facebook for $1 billion in cash and stock. This is one big amount and many analysts thought how Facebook is going to profit from this venture. The answer to this question is quite simple: ads.
Instagram announced that it will slowly integrate advertisements on the site and you may begin to notice sponsored images and videos from brands you don’t follow. Additionally, if you see an ad that you don’t like, you have the option to hide it and provide your feedback to the folks at Instagram.
We have big ideas for the future, and part of making them happen is building Instagram into a sustainable business. In the next couple months, you may begin seeing an occasional ad in your Instagram feed if you’re in the United States. Seeing photos and videos from brands you don’t follow will be new, so we’ll start slow. We’ll focus on delivering a small number of beautiful, high-quality photos and videos from a handful of brands that are already great members of the Instagram community.
Well, in order to survive and grow into a “sustainable business”, the company will introduce advertisements. The only thing we don’t know is when they’ll start appearing on your timelines.
