Ever since Sony’s QX cameras were released, they have been massively hindered by the PlayMemories Mobile application. The app is more of a problem on iOS than Android, but it still makes a decent product end up as unreliable and frustrating to use. The problem with the app is that it was never updated for iOS 7 compatibility. This has led to crashing, freezing and lag. All these elements are unacceptable when trying to take pictures. Fortunately, Sony told Apple Insider it’s actively working on an update that will fix these problems. The update should be available at some point this month.
PlayMemories Mobile is currently the only way to use your smartphone or tablet as a display for the QX10 and Qx100. Camera360 will be updated to support these cameras in mid-October. Sony also told Apple Insider Camera+ will also be updated for QX compatibility soon.
Sony apparently did not tell Apple Insider if it was adding more functionality to the app to add more manual control of the cameras. Honestly, at this point, I’d settle for something that just works.
