I get it, Nokia is desperate to make up for some of the Symbian and Meego’s lost time and become a contender for smartphone gold once again. But is it really wise of them to try to get back on top by mimicking Samsung and LG’s strategies and roll out device after device after device?
Probably not, but the Finns are going down that road anyway. Aside from multiple Asha phones, they are thus prepping a Lumia 1520, 929 and 525 for commercial launches by the end of the year. Plus, a Batman.
Wait, what? What’s the caped crusader got to do with the once mighty, now fallen mobile king? Apparently, another Lumia product is in the pipeline, the Lumia 1320, and the thing’s codename is Batman.
But seriously now, is Nokia planning to tie one of their gizmos with the Dark Knight comics or movies? Will they get Ben Affleck to wear the cape a little earlier in a marketing push similar to HTC’s Robert Downey Jr. “Here’s To Change” campaign? Almost definitely not.
Most likely, this is just eccentric Nokia internally codenaming otherwise bland products eccentrically so as to build some buzz when the moniker inevitably leaks to the press. Sounds cynical? Welcome to the mobile landscape.
Anyways, if you’re still curious about how the Lumia 1320 will end up looking like, I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Chances are it’s either an international version of the 929 or a carrier-branded 1520. Or maybe a cross breed of some kind, I really have no idea, I just know it won’t be as exciting as it sounds.
