Nokia is in all kinds of trouble as it appears their big Abu Dhabi press event will coincide with Apple’s no doubt glamorous unveiling of the new iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2. But what if the Finns can actually steal some of Cupertino’s thunder come October 22?
Sounds impossible, I know, yet the latest teaser image cooked by the Lumia makers stars a smartphone (possibly phablet), tablet and… laptop. Wait, what?
The smartphone is likely the Lumia 1520 (or maybe the 1320), the slate is undeniably the 2520, aka Sirius, but what’s up with the notebook? Could Nokia actually take the gamble to dip in the PC market by rolling out a… LumiaBook?
The answer is, or better yet should be, a resounding no. Instead, the pic most likely hints at one of two things: a tablet/notebook hybrid rocking a detachable keyboard (think Asus Transformer Pad or HP Envy x2), or a 3-in-1 device capable of a seamless metamorphosis from phone to pad to laptop (a la the first-gen Asus PadFone).
At the same time, the Lumia 2520 could simply be borrowing design elements from Microsoft’s Surfaces, including those things’ optional keyboard docks. But if you look closely, the laptop teased by Nokia appears a little more comfortably sized and polished than the way the docked Surfaces look.
In any case, all shall be revealed 12 days from now, so be sure to check back to us for the official scoop.
