Sources inside B&N have told me that the retailer will be releasing a new tablet this year. My source went on to add that the new tablet will improve upon last year’s Nook HD in at least one way: it’s going to have a camera. There’s no details yet on the resolution or location, and we still don’t know the screen size, CPU, or other technical details, but a number of details have leaked about the tablet’s accessories.
Thanks to a past leak, we know that B&N is planning to release a Nook-branded Bluetooth keyboard for the tablet. They already have headphones, a charging dock, and a BT speaker, so a keyboard is the natural next step.
It also appears that B&N has decided to have a new “Nook For Dummies” book published by John Wiley and Sons. It’s not due to be released until November, but the listing for that title has shown up on B&N’s website as well as other websites.
There isn’t any firm info on when B&N plans to launch their new tablet, but sources that work in B&N’s stores have said that they were projected to sell more digital content in October than in September. One concluded that this was a sign that B&N was going to launch a new tablet.
In any case, that launch is going to have to happen fairly soon. The calendar year is rapidly running out, so if B&N does plan to launch new hardware they are running out of time.
