And the award for biggest tease in the history of mobile goes to… drum roll please… Google. Big G has gone out of its way to let us know the Nexus 5 is coming, there’s no doubt about it anymore, as most of the so-called spills of information starring the next-gen “pure Google phone” have come via very official sources near the search monster’s campus.
Remember the notorious Android 4.4 KitKat promotional video where an N5 shot was “accidentally” slipped? Well, believe it or not, Google has just pulled an even bigger publicity stunt than that one, unintentionally (yeah, right) listing the 5-inch Nexus on its Play Store before making the thing officially official.
Of course, the listing was quickly deleted, but the “harm” was already done. We now know for sure the N5 is coming, it’s going to be named that way and it’s to cost $349 in a 16 GB variation.
Interestingly enough, in the short period of time Google Play listed this elusive son of a gun, the original Nexus 4 was nowhere to be found. Now however, its own details have gone back up, though the actual device continues to be out of stock.
Meanwhile, the folks with Mobile Syrup up north claim to have received a Nexus 5 press image (another one?) via a tip, this time carrying branding for Canada’s number three wireless service provider, Telus.
The presser brings nothing really new or surprising to the table, as it falls perfectly in line with previously leaked pics, so all we can do now is wait. Until October 28, according to some, October 22, according to others, or even October 30. Bottom line, now we wait.
