Earlier today, Nokia unveiled a handful of devices including two 6-inch handsets, an upgraded Asha lineup and a Windows RT tablet. During the event, the folks at Nokia also had some good news for Windows Phone 8 users and that is: Instagram is finally coming to Windows Phone 8 ecosystem along with Twitter’s Vine application.
Yes, it’s true. If you are tired with all the third-party applications that you have to use in order to have the popular image sharing social network on your Windows Phone handset, you’ll soon be free from all that. Executive Stephen Elop announced on-stage that Instagram is working on the Windows Phone 8 application, which will be released in the coming weeks.
According to The Verge, Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom confirmed the availability of Instagram on Windows Phone 8 platform. According to Systrom,
Our ultimate goal is to bring Instagram to everyone who wants to use it. We’re looking forward to watching the Windows Phone community use Instagram to capture and share beautiful moments in the coming weeks.
There are no details about an exact launch date or the features the application will bring for Windows Phone handsets, but it should be similar to Android and iPhone. It’s expected to be a big thing for Microsoft and Windows Phone; Instagram’s social network has over 150 million active users.
Though the app is not alone in newly making its way to Windows Phone 8 — it was also announced that Twitter’s Vine will also hit the Windows Phone Store very soon. Additionally, there are a handful of applications that are going to be introduced for WP8 including Flipboard, which will initially launch as Lumia 2520 exclusive followed by other devices in the coming weeks.
