Today, LEGO announced its selection for the next fan-made creation that will be sold as an official product. The Exo Suit from Peter Reid successfully beat out other creations based on The Legend of Zelda, Purdue Pete, Portal 2, Space Troopers, Google’s Andy the Android and others. LEGO says creation on the Exo Suit set is underway, and is expected to be in stores in the middle of 2014. Results from the next Cuusoo evaluation are expected to come in early 2014. The candidates include sets based on Faster Than Light, a female minifigure set, The Wizard of Oz and Ghostbusters.
The last Cuusoo project to get the green light was the Mars Curiosity Rover back in June. The price and release date for that set isn’t available at this time. LEGO also released a Back to the Future themed set some months back that was based on a Cuusoo project.
Now that the review period for winter 2012, spring 2013 and summer 2013 has concluded, LEGO will not consider supporting any Cuusoo creation from that time frame with one exception. The Land Rover Defender 110 Cuusoo creation is being considered by LEGO even though it isn’t the official winner. If the company is able to secure licensing to the Land Rover brand and work out other logistics, it too can grace store shelves in the future.
