Children-focused gadgets may have been considered oddities of the mobile tech landscape until a little while back, but it probably won’t be long until they’ll break into the mainstream. As in really break into the mainstream, with entire aisles of department stores dedicated to them and OEMs like Samsung, Apple, HTC and LG crossing swords for yet another crown.
Well, not sure about the others, but Samsung is game for kid-friendly tabs already, being ready to roll out the aptly yet convolutedly named Galaxy Tab 3 Kids stateside. The 7-incher, which borrows its internals from the standard GTab 3 7.0, will be up for grabs via a number of third-party retailers come November 10 for $229.99.
Or you can make sure your offspring will be the coolest around the block the first and pre-order it online beginning November 1. Either way, it’s a ruggedized 7-inch slate you’re signing up for, one with sub-par hardware, but software tailor-made for youngsters.
Youngsters, as in ages 12 or so and below, mind you, because there’s a good shot a GTab 3 Kids purchase for your teenage son or daughter will spark quite the fight.
So talk to your kid first and foremost and, if you end up scoring the tab, don’t forget to take full advantage of its vast amount of pre-loaded content, both educational and… not so much, as well as the airtight parental controls.
