Type a lot but don’t want to bother with a laptop? How about a foldable full-size keyboard for your smartphone or tablet? That’s the question iWerkz answers with its new Universal Foldable Bluetooth Keyboard.

Roughly the same size as the Mac keyboard I’m using to type this, minus the calculator buttons and a few others, the QWERTY iWerkz keyboard feels solid and looks solid. I’m pretty picky about how my keyboards feel, and this one felt natural to my fingers and eyes.

The best part? When you’re done typing, the iWerkz folds in half to roughly the size and shape of a very light smartphone. That makes it easy to throw into your purse, laptop bag or backpack. It’s a rugged accessory for your Android, iOS or Windows device.

Because it connects to your device via Bluetooth 3.0, you don’t need to worry about keeping the keyboard physically tethered to your device; in fact, you can be up to 30 feet away from your device. An interesting and welcome addition to the overall package is an included stand that can hold up your tablet or smartphone so you much more easily see what you’re typing on your screen. What’s more, this heavy plastic sand also can serve as a protective shell for transporting the keyboard.

iWerkz paid attention to style with this product, with white keys on a royal blue background (there are also red, pink black and white versions), and an aluminum back. OS-specific Quick-Start keys (Android, Windows, iOS) tailor usage to your preferred operating system.

The iWerkz keyboard uses a rechargeable lithium battery that the company claims has a running time of 44 hours, with a standby time of 30 days. When it needs a charge, the included USB-to-micro USB cable comes to the rescue; we found that the charging process took two hours. In another nod to energy efficiency, the keyboard goes into sleep mode after 15 minutes of inactivity.

I bought one and it looks nice but I haven’t been able to use it yet and the manufacturer will not respond to my emails. Instructions say to enter “passkey” during the pairing process but they don’t say what the “passkey” is and I can’t find it anywhere on the unit or in the instructions. Any ideas????? Help!

Hi Mira! We asked iWerkz to respond to your problem. Here’s what they said: “The passkey is automatically generated when the keyboard pairs with the device. If you don’t see a passkey there’s a problem. Most likely you have an older device that doesn’t work with Bluetooth 3.0 or you’re using one of the Windows Tablets that doesn’t support keyboards. Otherwise you can try 0000 or 00000. Sometimes that forces a connection when the tablet is acting up.”

I have one of these wonderful products, but as of late a few keys have stopped working, one of ehich is the enter key, which in turm prevents me from pairing it to my tablet. I have emailed them numerous time with lack of respons on their part. My hope is since you have such wonderful luck communicating with them, maybe you could assist me in a resolution. I would greatly appreciate it.

I am on my second keyboard and have had the same problem with both. Some of the keys stop working. I try charging it, but that doesn’t seem to help. I really like this keyboard, but after the same experience with two different keyboards, I cannot recommend this product. I will be looking for another keyboard.

I guess I am in the minority here. I have had my keyboard since late October 2014 and I have only success thus far. I do hope my good fortune continues as I find this keyboard quite useful and helps to make me that much more productive when using my iPhone 6+. I am so glad I discovered this product.
