I can’t seem to process this. Perhaps my one-screen life just can’t keep up with the trends these days. That being said, Samsung is trying something a little different with its plan to launch a three-sided phone display with a screen that wraps around the phone’s edges.
Samsung is working alongside the company that was behind the [easyazon-link asin=”B00GATXETY” locale=”us”]Galaxy Round[/easyazon-link]’s curved phone screen.
According to a Bloomberg report, users will be able to read text messages from all angles and any side of the screen. Seeing as this has never been done before, it could set Samsung ahead of Apple. Although, like I said, I still don’t quite understand it.
CNBC spoke to analysts about the new design.
Ian Fogg, head of mobile analysis at IHS Electronics and Media, told CNBC:
Over the last five years, almost every smartphone has ended up having a very similar shape. The first thing this does is it enables Samsung to innovate in the design and appearance of the handset to make it stand out from rivals.
Whether or not the design will be released for the S or Note series is unknown at this time. However, curved screens are certainly rising in popularity, and Apple is supposedly already working on curved iPhone designs.
There is no known release date at this time.
