We’ve heard reports about Samsung Galaxy Gear being a big failure with the sales of the wearable gadget being below expectations. Well, I guess those reports were incorrect; according to Reuters, Samsung announced that they sold almost 800,000 units of Galaxy Gear since its launch two months ago, making it the most popular smartwatch despite all the negative reviews.
The Korean OEM even told Reuters that the sales of the Galaxy Gear exceeded their own expectations and they’ll introduce promotions and discounts on the smartwatch during the holiday season to attract more customers.
Well, it could be correct, but the smartwatch still needs a lot of improvement. The smartwatch comes with a hefty $299 price tag, which is quite high compared to other smartwatches that are already available in the market such as Pebble etc. Even the features offered by the smartwatch are not that exciting which can make a customer spend a $300 on a watch.
Currently, the not-so-attractive smartwatch works with selected handsets including Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3, but the update for the Galaxy S3 has been stopped due to bugs and problems. Samsung did mention that Galaxy Gear compatibility will come to other Galaxy handsets in the near future, but until then, it’s not a very attractive gadget.
Samsung also released an update for the Galaxy Gear recently that brought some much needed features such as full app notifications and more. But, that doesn’t make it something which can be considered a necessity by consumers.
