After a year of whining and bitching and moaning from folks willing to score Microsoft’s Surface tablet (previously known as Surface RT) but reluctant to drop the premiums charged by MS, it’s finally time to put your money where your mouth is.
Following several discounts that brought the 10.6-incher’s price dangerously close to its true value, Black Friday 2013 is to make the Surface impossible to turn down… for once. Microsoft’s online store should start the festivities later today (November 27) and keep the promotion live until December 2, during which time the 32 GB Surface will cost a measly $199.
That’s 150 bucks off the price listed at the time of this writing, but remember, the Surface was $500 back in the day, so technically, you’re looking at a 60% or so cut. Oddly, the 64 GB model won’t get the same treatment, going down from $399 to a still fairly prohibitive $379.
Meanwhile, Best Buy, Walmart and Staples are just a few of the big names in the retail business joining hands with Microsoft for similar, nay almost identical special offers. BB is to charge the exact same $200 for the 32 GB Surface, whereas Walmart and Staples will apply their discounts on the tab bundled with one of those uber-productive Touch Covers. The package’s fee? $250. ETAs? Tomorrow and the day after.
