It’s official, LG’s biggest (figuratively speaking), baddest, proudest smartphone ever, the G2, is circling an Android 4.4 KitKat update. Only the OTA will not be rolled out as early as one particular French retailer suggested earlier this month.
Not in Canada, where company officials have confirmed the G2 will “have a break, have a Kit Kat” in late Q1 2014, meaning towards the end of March. Not quite an impressive turnaround time, since Motorola’s Moto X for instance has scored the upgrade already on three out of four American carriers.
However, LG doesn’t have Moto’s close ties with Google. Also, just because Canadians will be left hanging until March, that doesn’t mean Europeans won’t get a taste of the chocolaty treat earlier. Historically speaking, North America has almost always followed the old continent’s suit in software bumps, so in theory, next month could still bring Android 4.4 to some G2 users.
Turning our attention back north, it’s worth mentioning the KitKat update should land on all Canadian carriers at around the same time, which is probably the day’s best news. Well, that and the ongoing Black Friday deals, but I digress. The bottom line is the G2 is shaping up to be quite the splendid Christmas present, what with Android 4.4 bound to make it even zippier in no time.
