The age of the physical QWERTY keyboard-toting handhelds is long gone, despite BlackBerry’s best efforts, however that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t expect a retro-looking little gizmo to pop up here and there from time to time.
Case in point, LG’s Optimus F3Q. The no doubt modest upcoming phone has just had a picture leaked to the press, and chances are it’s due out on T-Mobile by the end of the year.
Why would anyone want to release anything so close to the holidays? Simple, because the F3Q may well be the perfect Christmas present for mom and dad. Sure, it’s a violent blast from the past, but some people prefer simplicity over nifty designs and nostalgia over top-notch performance.
Besides, if the Optimus F3Q is anything like the original Optimus F3 (and it should), you could do a lot worse spec-wise. A 4-inch or so IPS LCD screen with 800 x 480 pixels resolution is likely in the cards, as are a dual-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 CPU, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and 2,460 mAh battery. Maybe even a bigger ticker, as the F3Q looks a bit on the chunky side.
Bottom line, QWERTY ain’t making a mainstream comeback, but there’s definitely still a cozy little place under the sun for ugly yet productive devices. Too bad BlackBerry doesn’t get they also need to be cheap to sell.
