2014 is expected to be a big year for wearable tech and mobility. Many soon-to-release products are going to be featured at the 2014 CES in Las Vegas in just a few weeks.
Mighty Cast has announced the launch of its flagship device. The Nex Band is a customizable wearable device that provides users with select notifications from apps and games. If you’re one who loves collecting and accessorizing, then the Nex Band can be the thing for you.
So we’re basically talking about a charm bracelet. The Nex Band accepts any combination of up to five charms, called Mod charms, to be clicked onto the device. Each charm has a unique symbol on it to represent a specific mobile game, app, or social channel.
The Nex Band uses Bluetooth communication to receive notifications, and each charm lights up and blinks when there is one waiting.
There are a number of notification bracelets out on the market, but the Nex Band seems to be the first to feature unique customization. Charms are accessible and manageable via an app.
At first glance, it seems that the Nex Band would have people connected to their devices even more. But depending on how you use it, it can mean having more human contact that isn’t through a smartphone instead. You can be out with people and have your phone tucked away until a critical notification pops up on your Nex Band.
Or we all just might set it up to assist our Candy Crush addictions.
Although Mighty Cast has their work cut out to create the individual charms, they’re planning to have the Nex Band available before the 2014 holiday shopping season. Visit the Mighty Cast website for preorder information.
