Things are looking up on the CES 2014 front, where not much of substance has taken shape of late. Just unsubstantiated rumors, phony-looking leaks and gossip about products that, in all honesty, will likely get pushed back to February’s MWC.
Not a bunch of Sony Xperia gear, though, pretty much confirmed to break cover in glitzy Vegas come next month. The Japan-based hardware maker has had its January 6 press invite leaked and, while the thing is fairly unexciting and bland, it suggests stuff will happen.
Like the crazy highly anticipated formal intro of the Xperia Z1s, which ultimately looks like an international diminutive Z1, not a rehashed, upgraded version with a 5-inch or larger screen. Then there’s that seemingly pointless Wi-Fi only Xperia Z Ultra model, and the cherry on top… the full-on Z1 sequel.
You know, the Z2, at one point nicknamed “Avatar”. Or maybe a Z1 Plus or something, as the codename circulated in the rumor mill these days is “Sirius”. In any case, keep your schedules open, as there’s no way to know for sure yet if the Sirius will see daylight in January, at CES, or one month later, at MWC.
The million-dollar question is what exactly can Sony do to up the Z1 ante? 2K resolution display? Possibly. Quad-core Snapdragon 805 CPU? Unlikely. 4 GB RAM? Impossibru. Pre-loaded Android 4.4 KitKat? Most certainly.
