KindleAmazon is mighty generous this holiday season, and after discounting the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom, Verizon Motorola Droid Maxx, Kindle Fire HDX and Fire HD 8.9, to name just a few, it has turned its attention and benevolence to the basic but sleek and productive Kindle e-reader.

The low-end 6-inch Kindle, that is, not the glowing, vibrant Kindle Paperwhite, which continues to cost a whopping $119. Meanwhile, the discounted little thing goes for $49 with special offers, so 20 bucks (28%) off its list price.

Sadly, the version free of Amazon ads and sponsored screensavers is not part of the promotion, sticking to a now prohibitive $89 price tag. Oh, well, it’s not like the commercials are too annoying, being unlikely to bug you when actually reading.

Since the Kindle may well top a great deal of Christmas shopping lists, especially as a gift for moms and dads all over the world, you can imagine the promo won’t be around for long. Specifically, it’s limited to today and will expire once the sun sets. Translation: get the heck out of here, visit Amazon and pray there’s still enough inventory to satisfy booming demand.
