There will be an updated version of the rather stylish SoundPlate (LAB540W), which isn’t a sound bar so much as a very thin (1.5 inches high) platform upon which a 32- to 55-inch TV can rest. It’s 4.1 channel, 320 watts with an external wireless subwoofer and Bluetooth. The interesting part? SoundPlate also features a built-in 3D Blu-ray player and LG Smart TV functionality, which means this thin platform can take the place of a Roku or Apple TV box, a Blu-ray player and a full sound system. Now that’s space-saving. Will the performance match the design friendliness? We shall see (or rather, hear).
Also to be introduced is the LG Wireless Audio System (NP8740), which LG claims allows you to access audio in multiple rooms “without a home network” and instead via mesh network technology. We’ll see exactly what this means at CES.
Finally, a new Bluetooth sound bar (NB5540), like the SoundPlate, offers 4.1 channels and 320 watts of output. It’s got two forward-facing and two rear-facing channels, a Hi-Fi DAC, HDMI with Audio Return Channel (ARC) and an Analog Class D amp.
LG will be located in Central Hall, Booth 8204.
