3DS Systems Acquires Solid Ink Product Design Arm of Xerox

The new technology of 3D printing became popular last year but I have a feeling it will even be bigger this 2014. 3D printing has seen improvements the past months alone that we said  a 3D printer is amazeballs. It could do so many things such as KeyMe replacements, print from a Dual-Head 3D printer, scan objects, copy an SLR camera, and doodle in 3D like the 3Doodler among others.

Before the year 2013 came to a close, a Xerox group was acquired by 3D Systems. Known for its office printers and industrial copiers, it’s obvious the Xerox would be helping 3D Systems in a whole lot of ways.

About $32.5 million were spent by 3D Systems to acquire Xerox’s solid ink product design. The deal includes the team, labs, and the IP–all of which 3D Systems will use to advance its current 3D printing arm.

3D Systems and Xerox’s teaming up to improve 3D printing is expected to bring the technology to the next level this 2014.
