Back in August, we learned about Steve Ballmer leaving Microsoft. It was said that he’s retiring but rumors about him being fired also came up. We’ll never know the real reason behind his exodus. It could just be that he’s retiring–no other reason.
Microsoft’s board members are currently busy looking for a replacement but seems like the search won’t be over soon. An early 2014 announcement was expected but it will now take the board a little while. Board member John Thompson said it will take some time.
We heard a few names being considered to become the new CEO. There’s Alan Mullaly of Ford, Stephen Elop of Nokia, and only recently, Qualcomm COO Steve Mollenkopf.
Ballmer mentioned before he will be replaced within 12 months. The new CEO might step up in summer but his reign could still be delayed. We’re expecting to hear more about new candidates. Whoever he will be, we’re hoping that he’d take Microsoft to higher grounds.
