While it’s no big surprise Samsung elected to not take the wraps off its next big thing, the Galaxy S5, during last week’s CES event, were February’s MWC to come and go without as much as an S5 cameo, we would all be left scratching our heads in disbelief.
Yet we have a fairly well-known Italy-based freelance journalist suggesting that’s exactly how things will go down. Flavio Pic (aka @flapic) says a “reliable source” has confirmed Samsung is to hold a special press event in London in mid-March to introduce the S5 to the world.
That certainly fits the pattern of recent glitzy Galaxy announcements, however a pre-MWC intro has been in the cards for months, being allegedly confirmed by a Samsung exec not long ago. Of course, we never actually heard Dong-hoon Chang utter the words “S5” and “February”, so the story might have been a fabrication.
It’s also not out of the question Chang intentionally threw us off the high-ender’s scent, though I wouldn’t necessarily take a freelance journalist’s word, especially based on a confidential source, for granted. In any case, we’ll be keeping an eye out for further developments, so stay tuned.
