In what seems to be the biggest news early this year in smart home technology, Google is set to acquire Nest Labs with a hefty price of $3.2 billion. The search giant paid cash and with CEO Larry Page excitedly welcoming Nest founders to Google.
Tony Fadell and Matt Rogers must be very happy with the acquisition. That’s a lot of money and no doubt that Google will be able to do more for Nest. With this development, we can expect smart home tech to become even bigger this year.
The Nest Learning Thermostat is a winner. It has also released a new product called Protect Smoke + CO Alarm. These products are now available should you want to go all geeky and digital at home.
Tony Fadell will still be leading Nest. The latter will still be its own brand but only now owned by the Mountain View company. Google has not finalized the deal yet but will be closing it before January ends.
