Quick, what does the color red symbolize to you? Some may say fire, blood, passion, desire, love, energy or even power. I say Nexus. But that’s just because I was dying to see the newest, hottest member of the “pure Google” family of mobile devices, the Nexus 5, coated in something other than bland black and white.
And Big G has delivered with less than ten days to go until Valentine’s Day. Talk about right timing, eh? Starting today, the “bright red” Nexus 5 can be had in the United States, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan and Korea, with potential buyers asked to visit their local Play Stores for pricing and shipping details.
Stateside, the snazzy crimson phone goes for $349 in a 16 GB variation and $399 with double the on-board storage, which happen to be the exact same price tags as the ones attached to flavors painted in white and black.
That’s no coincidence, mind you, as behind the external appearance, all three N5 variations are alike. They pack quad-core 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 800 CPUs, 2 GB RAM, 2,300 mAh batteries, 8 MP rear cameras, vibrant 5-inch Full HD IPS+ displays, and run Android 4.4.2 KitKat out the box. Guess chocolates and flowers won’t make for ideal Valentine’s presents this year, eh?
Well, it could have been worse. Samsung could have rolled out an uber-pricey red or gold Galaxy Note 3 ahead of February 14. Oh, wait…
