Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD and HDX tablets might not necessarily get better with age, but they’re getting cheaper while retaining their premium looks, rich, unique ecosystem and top-shelf hardware. Discounted a couple of times of late, for Cyber Monday and Christmas, the Android-skinned slates are again up for grabs on the cheap, likely for no more than a few days.
At best, until Valentine’s next Friday. The bottom line is you need to hurry, as the Fire HD 8.9, Fire HDX 7 and Fire HDX 8.9 all go for their lowest price points yet. The first, with an 8.9-inch 1,920 x 1,200 pix res screen and dual-core 1.5 GHz CPU, costs $189, down from $269, in a 16 GB Wi-Fi only “special offer” version.
Translation: ads may bug you from time to time, though they’re mostly harmless. The special-offer free 16 GB-er is not very pricey either, at $204, whereas 32 GB storage shall set you back $259.
Meanwhile, the 7-inch Fire HDX, sporting the same 1,920 x 1,200 resolution for a higher 323 ppi and quad-core 2.2 GHz oomph, starts at $199, marked down from $229. Again, that’s for a 16 GB flavor with special offers, 15 bucks extra ridding you of sponsored screensavers.
Finally, the powerhouse Fire HDX 8.9, complete with a cutting-edge 2,560 x 1,600 pix res panel, goes for $339, 40 bucks off its list price. Not a bad way to show your better half you care this Valentine’s Day and save a few clams in the process. It’s win-win, right?
