I was expecting something like this to happen but not this soon. Virgin Atlantic has just implemented a new gimmick for a more efficient and digitized airport check-in. Staff of the airline now use Google Glass, as well as, the Sony Smartwatch 2 as they greet passengers. This experience is initially for First Class passengers checking in at the Heathrow Airport Terminal 3.
The wearable devices are used to identify passengers so staff could greet them by name, translate foreign language, and provide flight updates.
Virgin Atlantic is in the process or testing which will run for six weeks. It’s a pilot scheme that is seen as innovative and has big potential to be helpful in improving airline efficiency. The concierge staff will greatly benefit from this allowing them to serve with more knowledge and confidence.
