An up-and-coming mobile player in China, but still little-known on the Western hemisphere, Oppo pondered a while ago an appearance at Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress for Find 7’s glitzy intro. Ultimately, the N1 makers decided to pass and chose a friendlier, more familiar venue – Beijing.
Probably a smart call, as was the announcement’s scheduling for March 19, which just happens to be slightly behind MWC. Clearly, Oppo can’t imagine it will steal Samsung Galaxy S5 or Sony Xperia Z2’s thunder in three weeks.
What it can definitely do is cleverly mock its much more reputable rivals, thus scoring free media exposure, as well as a possible prestige boost in the long run. Enter Oppo’s latest Find 7 teaser image, a simple, clean, hilarious jab at Samsung.
The handheld to be presented on March 19 is advertised as “greater” than S (or 5). Translation: the Find 7 will be better than the Galaxy S5. Which you can’t really argue with, since Oppo has basically confirmed a Quad HD display and quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chip as the spec sheet’s headliners.
Meanwhile, the S5 also packs an S801 CPU, but settles for Full HD resolution. Even worse, it comes with 2 GB RAM in tow, whereas the Oppo Find 7 is tipped to carry 3. Battery size might be another department where the underdog one-ups the frontrunner, though in the end, Oppo is obviously too tiny a manufacturer to threaten S5 global sales.
