There’s bad news for all those customers in Canada who are planning to get their hands on the PlayStation 4. Sony Canada has raised the price of the console in Canada by $50, bringing its price to $449.99 from $399.99.
It’s not just the console, there’s a price hike in accessories as well as games. Sony mentioned the price of the DualShock 4 controller and PlayStation 4 camera will rise by $5 to $64.99. For games, PlayStation 4’s exclusive Infamous: Second Son and MLB 14 The Show also rose to $69.99.
As far the reason for the price hike is concerned, Sony said in a statement that its due to the changes in the market environment. Although they didn’t cite anything about the depreciating Canadian dollar against the American dollar.
Sony Computer Entertainment Canada confirmed Friday that the price of the PS4 in Canada will rise $50, from $399.99 to $449.99, effective Saturday. The price of the DualShock 4 controller and PlayStation Camera will each rise $5 to $64.99.
In a statement, Sony said the price increases in Canada are “to respond to changes in the market environment,” although the declining value of the Canadian dollar against the American greenback wasn’t specifically cited as a reason.
In terms of sale, the PlayStation 4 has outsold Xbox One, and one of the reasons is its price difference. But now that difference is reduced, we might see a rise in the sale of Xbox One, since the Redmond-based company is also bundling the one of the most highly anticipated first person shooter game Titanfall with it.
