Wearables are expected to get bigger this year. It was predicted that about 90 million wearable devices will be sold this year. Honestly, I can’t say the target number will be reached before the year ends but the new technology will definitely sell as it gets more popular each day.
Apple has not officially announced the iWatch but gadget town has been waiting for it. The Pebble is a bestseller, together with Samsung’s Galaxy Gear and its siblings. Google has recently shown off the Android Wear platform which will be used by manufacturers like LG, Motorola and other watchmakers. HTC has wearables too. And of course, let’s not forget Qualcomm’s Toq smartwatch.
We don’t know if Microsoft is joining the bandwagon but now were hearing Nokia is looking at wearable devices. Will we see a Lumia watch soon? Why not? A Nokia smartwatch just sounds about right.
WPCentral Daniel Rubino recently shared via Twitter that Nokia wearables are coming later this year. But before the release, Microsoft and Nokia will announcement more new apps at next week’s Microsoft Build developers conference. There’s a Lumia event next week too so we’ll see if Nokia is indeed working on a smartwatch.
It’s okay to assume 2014 is the year when wearables will be more popular but study shows people are aware of the technology but not buying it for many reasons.
