It’s been a long time coming, and at least one deadline has been missed, but all’s well that ends well and the KitKat for HTC Droid DNA saga is closing down on its happy ending. In roughly 24 hours, the OG 5 incher is to score Android 4.4, along with Sense 5.5, meaning that software-wise the handheld will be perfectly up to date.
Well, not quite perfectly, as the One (M8) actually runs KitKat with Sense 6 UI on top. However, I’m sure most Droid DNA owners care a lot more about Android 4.4 than the newest version of HTC’s own personal user interface.
Too bad yesteryear’s flagship can’t be bought anywhere nowadays, as it has the makings of an Android classic. Available exclusively on Verizon back in the day, the powerhouse is no powerhouse anymore when compared with the M8, yet the Full HD display, quad-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro chip, 2 GB RAM and 2,020 mAh battery still make for a mighty robust hardware configuration.
Expect Droid DNA’s latest, and possibly final, software upgrade to begin spreading over-the-air on April 24, with the rollout likely to be gradual and keep some users on their toes through mid-May. But what’s a few weeks among friends, right?
