Prospective 3D printers received some exciting news this week care of a startup called New Matter. The company has launched its Mod T 3D printer on an Indiegogo campaign, which seems sure to be successful. One of 3D printing’s biggest hurdles is its accessibility, and with the Mod T printer’s $249 price tag, this 3D printer is expected to jumpstart the industry for consumers.
Also, the printer utilizes a minimalist design, making it an easy machine to store in your home or apartment. In terms of functionality, the engineering team designed the printer with a two-axis motion system which results in a cheaper 3D printer for the consumer. The printer also features Wi-Fi so that users can send designs to their computer or smartphone.
Another unique feature of the New Matter Mod T is its design store. Users can check out and purchase designs to be sent to the Mod T printer.
Now that I know I can probably afford a 3D printer at some point in the future, my mind is already wandering to the many things i could 3D print at my leisure. And as a complete narcissist, most of them involve 3D printed models of myself.
That being said, here’s a list of 10 things I would 3D print myself as if I had the Mod T printer. Feel free to add your ideas in the comments section!
What women hasn’t wanted to dress up as Catwoman for Halloween or just life in general? Now I can have my own Catwoman figurine, but this time she would actually have my face. Meow.
2) Poison Ivy:
Are you sensing a trend here? I’m a little Batman-obsessed, but there’s few female villains as cool as Poison Ivy.
3) Daenerys Targaryen:
Yes, I am going through a Game of Thrones phase. Now I just need to find some dragons. I’m sure Craigslist has some.
4) A Star Trek character:
Admittedly, this wasn’t my idea. When I went to a 3D printing convention in New York, everyone had a 3D-printed version of themselves in the Star Trek uniform, and it looked super cool. Live long and prosper!
5) Princess Leia:
Obviously…And of course I would want both Princess Leia in the white dress and braids, as well as the slave Leia costume. Collect them all! Just call me Liz Lemon.
6) A minion:
Who doesn’t love minions? It’s a conversation starter!
7) Britney Spears in the “Oops I Did it Again” Music Video:
Come on, I’m a child of the 90s. What do you expect?
This one might seem strange, but it was my nickname on my high school basketball team. Call me sentimental. Just don’t call me Shirley!
She’s my favorite Disney princess.
10) A Celtics player:
Since it’s my favorite NBA team and all, I think it would be pretty cool to be 3D printed in a Celtics jersey. As for what number I’d choose, that’s the tough part.
