Galaxy Tab 3 8.0Making it clear once and for all that we’re mere hours away from the introduction of an ultra-high-end Samsung Galaxy Tab S pair, Amazon has just slashed the price of the aging GTab 3 8.0 to a new all-time low.

The 8-inch Android 4.2-running slate, which used to go for $250 in a Wi-Fi-only 16 GB variation, is now a measly $170. No rebates, no refurb program, no strings attached whatsoever. The deal doesn’t appear to be time-limited either, so you might as well wait for the Tab S 8.4 to go official before buying. Although clearly, the Super AMOLED display-boasting beast will start a lot higher.

Possibly, at $300 or so. Back to the one-year-old, non-AMOLED tablet, we should probably mention most other trusted retailers continue to charge $250 and up. Heck, Newegg practically matches Amazon’s special offer… on refurbished units, so I rest my case.

Likely next on the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrading list, the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 packs dual-core 1.5 GHz Exynos punch, a solid 1.5 GB RAM, 4,450 mAh juice, microSD support and a decent 5 MP rear-facing camera. Aesthetically, the 8 incher remains a winner too, thanks to a wasp waist (7.4 mm thick), but the 1,280 x 800 pix res screen is, in lack of a kinder word, appalling.
